CSS Policy Survey
Monitor progress in national school safety planning for evidence-based planning and decision-making
Purpose
The CSS Policy Survey is aligned with the CSS Framework and the CSS Targets and Indicator. It is designed for national assessment (or for federated governments, provincial level assessment). Implementation relies upon both desk review, and national or sub-national multi-stakeholder school safety coordination platforms to capture and validate collective intelligence and understanding of current CSS policy implementation. Aggregated statistics measuring school safety outcomes are also included.
The CSS Policy Survey allows us to do three important things:
i. Have a quick overview of the strengths and gaps in CSS policy (at national or sub-national level)
ii. Track progress over time;
iii. Compare results across countries, esp. in a particular region.
Audience
The CSS Policy Survey is designed for senior and mid-level government duty-bearers, and policy-makers and school safety advocates to be able to quickly appraise and understand their progress and articulate policy and advocacy priorities.
Implementation – Pilot projects
The first implementation was conducted in 2017, using online survey tools, and regionally contextualized approaches to data collection. Data was received from 68 countries, with 50% validated by the relevant responsible government agency. The following publications report this data:

The tools are being revised and prepared for production of a multi-lingual digital toolset, to allow for re-appraisal and automated reports, every 2-3 years. The data can be used to show national, regional and global dashboards, and provide reports on progress towards school safety policy and implementation.
