Schools should be safe learning spaces, where children and staff are protected from ALL risks. Yet children, particularly in most vulnerable regions, are facing unprecedented threats from climate change, epidemics and pandemics, violence, and conflict. When these threats are realised, they can cause permanent and complex harm to children and societies – with the most marginalised children being unacceptably vulnerable.
Compelled by the rising threats to children and education, the Global Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience in the Education Sector (GADRRRES) globally launched in September 2022 the Comprehensive School Safety Framework (CSSF) 2022-2030, calling on governments and partners to act now for child rights and resilience in education.

To maintain this momentum, a series of regional and national launch events are planned. On Thursday 19 January 2023, the launch of the CSSF 2022-2030 for the Latin America and Caribbean region took place with the participation of the regional partners that are part of this commitment.
The objectives of the regional launch were:
- To reflect on progress in school safety since the inception of the CSSF in 2012.
- To showcase the revised CSSF, in the context of the global education crisis, climate-change, COVID-19 impacts on education, and conflict, violence and displacement.
- To advocate for support, endorsement, and commitments to the CSSF 2022-2030 by national and subnational education, disaster management, climate change, and child protection authorities, their inter-governmental and non-governmental, civil society, academic and scientific community and school community partners.
- To encourage and facilitate coordinated efforts amongst global, regional, and national level stakeholders to come together in multi-stakeholder school safety coordination mechanisms for collective impact to protect child rights in the education sector.
